INSTALLATION DOCUMENTS
Renowned: The Morimoto Elite Systems have earned their reputation amongst many as the aftermarket's best set of HID's. We urge you to check out the specs below, read the reviews, and then ask yourself whether your ability to see well while driving at night is worth saving a couple bucks?
HID Ballasts: Designed in California by Morimoto's engineer, Yoshi Ishida, the Morimoto XB 2.0 HID Ballasts are just as good looking on the outside as they are well-engineered on the inside. They are available in both 35w and 50w versions, use proprietary software by the pros at Hylux paired with packaging perfection from the masters at Morimoto. This is today's most modern iteration of a model that has sold more than half a million units since inception, and we don't think it can really get any better!
XB HID Bulbs: Homegrown by Morimoto to out-perform any alternatives on the market when installed in fog lights--and it shows. We admit the latest generation XB HID are pretty impressive when compared to other bulbs, and even older Morimoto bulbs. At the heart of the XB bulbs is their perfectly-aligned 100% Philips quartz glass capsule that houses high quality halide salts from German-supplier Messer. In our annual lux comparison test, they produced nearly the same lumin Osity (intensity) as the industry benchmark Osram CBI bulbs at 5500K. No, you're not seeing things here, but yes you will be seeing everything at night.
Wire Harness: As one of the most important parts in any HID lighting upgrade; don't skimp out when it comes to your wiring. It doesn't matter how good your ballasts are. How good your bulbs are. If your harness is a piece of crap, when it gives out your fog lights are gonzo. Morimoto's harnesses are the best on the market and easily worth their premium price compared to cheaper alternatives. No matter which one is right for your application, the harness features triple-sealed central relay packs, 14ga stranded copper wiring, over-molded fittings, and plug-n-play functionality. This will ensure everything properly (and permanently) works with your vehicle's original in-cabin controls.
Optional Canbus Harnesses: Instead of a traditional relayed harness that draws power from the battery, Morimoto's Standalone Canbus harnesses use two individual sub-harnesses to keep a load on the factory wiring. Recommended for vehicles that recognize when a bulb is out, these contain a series of capacitors and resistors to trick the car into thinking nothing has changed and help you avoid annoying "bulb out" warnings. We generally recommend them for use on most modern European applications instead of normal harnesses since they do a great job at providing stable power to the ballasts and canceling any warnings.
Backed Up: Let's not forget the 5-year warranty on the entire kit*. The Elite system is designed to run for 2500 hours, so that's what it's guaranteed for. Don't buy into empty promises from other places offering BS "lifetime" warranties. Nothing lasts forever, and if you think "the other guy" will be there to pick up the phone or even stay in business long enough to assist you when there's a problem; guess again! [*XB55 880 HID kits have a 3 year warranty]
User-Approved: By satisfied enthusiasts with all kinds of cars and trucks. With a quick and easy search we pulled up install examples (1,2,3,4,5,6) that span several generations of the Elite HID systems! If you haven't made a decision just yet, keep reading!

Terrible headlights
by Mark
I purchased these a while back, probably over 6 months ago. Sometimes the lights won't even turn on unless you turn the headlights on and off and the truck on and off until they decide they want to work. Now only one will come on. Would recommend to never buy these overpriced pieces of crap. Never again.
Bright and easy
by Andrew -
I have tried less expensive lights and they were cheap in every sense of the word. These were very fast and simple to install, are extremely bright and all the hardware is heavy-duty. Anything bit these is tossing money in the toilet.
A little backgr
by Ronald Brandt
A little background is in order here.
Previous to purchasing this H13 bi-xenon kit here I had previously purchased a cheap kit somewhere else locally. It seems that I can only find cheap kit locally.
The kit that I bought locally was not bi-xenon & had a halogen high beam light. The bulb itself was ok but could have better designed as to it's location in the reflector housing of my 2010 Dodge grand caravan. The beam had a band of yellow light above the cut off of the low beam. This made it so I had to aim the lower than I really wanted to to prevent dazzling other drivers. The high beam lights on this kit were halogen & were totally worthless as when you turn on the high beams the HID bulb shut off & the halogen light shined up into the trees & not at all on the road.
The original ballasts that came with that kit were of the D.C. output type & as a result the output was low & off color temperature. The off color temperature was not a fault of the bulbs but of the ballast. When I hooked a better ballast up to them they were the proper color temperature for their rating.
There was no wiring harness that came with these & though they worked ok with the original ballasts. I had trouble with their more powerful "55watt" ballast not igniting the bulbs consistently so I made my own relayed wiring harness which did work but the problems with their "55watt" ballasts remained as the ballasts were faulty in that they still would not ignite the bulbs if the ballast was warm & it did not matter if the heat source was internal or external, anything over luke warm caused an issue.
Enter the TRS H13 elite kit with Morimoto bulbs, ballasts & motocontrol harness.
The kit arrived on the scheduled time. The sales person that I talked with on the phone was friendly & even though I disagree on some things we talked about they were not critical points.
The Morimoto 3five ballasts are in a word absolutely excellent. They were reliable & would ignite the bulbs under any condition that I tested them in. Their power & color temperature which is in part a function of the ballast providing the correct type & amount of power was spot on. Correct type output being A.C. output instead of D.C. output that some cheap ballasts produce including the ones that originally came with the cheap kit that I purchased locally.
The Morimoto H13 bi-xenon bulbs are also very good. The beam pattern was much closer to the stock halogen bulbs that came with the car. There was still a slight yellow ban above the cut off of the low beam but much narrower than on the cheap HID kit's bulbs. While this was not absolutely perfect, it was more than acceptable as now I could aim them slightly higher without dazzling other drivers. This yellow band does not come from the bulb but from the back side of the hood that is inside the reflector. Correct positioning of the capsule or filament in the case of a halogen bulb hides this yellow band.
High beam on this bulb is excellent with good distance lighting up about 1/4 mile brightly without being over bright in the near field. There is adequate light beyond 1/4 mile out to about 1/2 mile. This is in large part due to the reflector housing not really being setup for great throw but for good width of beam even on high beam. Color temperature of the bulb output looked to be spot on with no hint of blue or yellow from the bulb itself.
The motocontrol harness is superb. connections are of high quality & there is an abrasion resistant cover over the wiring to protect the wiring. Even though I have a Chrysler product my car did not require the chrysler specific harness as this car does not have the canbus system that detects bulbs that are out. I did need to add a capacitor though to prevent the solinoids on the H13 bulbs from buzzing on high beam only.

After doing lot

After doing lots of research on TRS's site, I decided to purchase the 9008/H13 HID system. I had a few tech questions when I ordered. The staff explained every question thoroughly, and even offered alternate solutions. Install went as planned, and was very strait forward. You can download directions for instal from TRS's site, but there's really no need. The only part I would change would be making the harness about a foot longer, but it works fine as is. The change was incredible. I chose 55 watt ballasts with 5000k bulbs. It's a pure white light that's super bright. I installed in a 2012 Ford Raptor, and wanted to keep the stock headlights. I'm very impressed with the HID system, and with TRS's customer service and tech.

I got today HID Elite kit with 5000K H13/9008 bi-xenon bulbs for my 2013 Ford F-150 STX. It was pretty easy to figure out installation with guide from resource/download section.
Make sure you have good ground (battery -) connection because I have issue with one headlight and after suggested troubleshooting guide from download section I was able to find t he problem, bad ground contact.
Everything else was so smooth.
This system is sooooooo bright I love it!
I got regular 35w with 5000K bulbs.
Highly recommended kit!
Looking forward!
Thank you Retrofit Source and special thanks to Merimoto for affordable great kit.

2012 Chevy Cruze 1.4T LTZ, I have tried othesr but they could not keep up and where not made for new cars i am guessing and made loud buzzing sounds. Then i found TRS and my wishes where answered buy awesome lights and harness. No more buzzing, flickering, light out. When you get the box in the mail you can feel the quality before you see it. People ask me all the time why my lights look perfect and work %100 of every day and moment even DRL's. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Thanks TRS
Kit came well p
by Brandon Doughty
Kit came well packaged, with plenty of packing peanuts and every component were in their own little box. I took everything out and inspected it. Everything looked great. The kit had a few flaws though, which I overcame or ignored. One of the ballasts had fraying of the cable wrap that it came with. I picked at it a little, and it appeared to be staying put for the time being. The positive and negative spades could use some improvement in quality. They are easily bendable, and one of the wires came out of the spade causing me 30 minutes of troubleshooting. The insulators for the spades are made of plastic, when they could be heat-wrapped for a better function and appearance to match the rest of the wires trend. I ended up stripping more covering off,and simply wiring it without the spade.
The input from the factory relay to the factory lights did not fit correctly, as it had to be jammed into place (not sure if the clip was to big, or tall or whatever), and is now electrical taped to ensure it does not slide around. I called them up and they offered to help troubleshoot the issue, advised me to push harder, and I did. I just taped it up, and went on my way.
As for the install. It was very simple once you realize the fact that they don't give you a sheet of instructions is because they label every wire.
Hardest part is finding the best way to mount your ballasts and relay system using the available wires. It took me a half hour to figure out where I wanted to mount them, and run the wires. The alcohol prep pads it came with were a good "just in case" measure, even though I never touched the bulbs, I wiped them down anyway.
I disabled the DRLs, and fired them up. At 6000k they had a nice white light light with a hint of blue. After 2 seconds they were at full brightness. A click to the high-beams was instant.
Total install time for me was an hour and a half, taking my time is cold weather.
Parts feel sturdy, and have heft to them. Customer service was helpful for even silly questions. Picked up quick. Very polite.
Only issue I had was the advertising decal adhesive was weak on mine as the letters literally fell off after a quick drive to town.
The price is much steeper then other brands, but I feel as if I spent my money well enough.
I do feel as if I would recommend this brand of HIDs to anyone who asks.
The test will be to see if they can last the total of 5 years they are warranted for. That would be the icing on the cake.
2013 f15 hid and 3157 switchbacks
by Eric Cressey
I bought both the h13 hid kit and 3157 switchbacks and installation was easy and the product is great quality. I had a cheaper setup installed but it didn't hold up to the test of time. Very happy. The only thing I did was when wiring in the resistors for the switchbacks I soldered the wires and threw the cheap splice connectors they came with in the trash.
