INSTALLATION DOCUMENTS
Lucky You: Dodge finally gave the Ram projector-based headlights...they forgot one thing though, the performance part of the equation. Output wise, they leave a lot to be desired. Fortunately however, the Morimoto Retro-Quik system is designed as a direct bolt-on upgrade for a big performance boost inside the headlights on all 2013+ Ram trucks.
Projector-Perfection: There are other projectors that produce brighter hot spots. There are other projectors that have unholy amounts of width. But no other option creates the perfect balance of width & hotspot lux (aka distance) quite like the 5.0. In order to create the ultimate weapon for driving in the dark; Morimoto baked in all of the best practices from a variety of well-respected OEM and aftermarket projectors. Their latest and greatest equates to the perfect all-around performer. While it big boost in the performance department, it's also clear they've paid attention to the details in the parts department too. New bulb holders & lock rings are icing on our projector pie!
Mounting Hardware: 100% Engineered in the US. Laser cut from automotive-grade G10 fiberglass. The Retro-Quik brackets at the heart of the kit are designed to adapt the Morimoto Mini D2S 5.0 Bi-xenon projectors directly in place of the unsophisticated stock units. Using the original mounting holes paired with new hardware, they are the beauty behind the kit that makes it an easy install. You're welcome.
Optional HID Ballasts: Designed in California by Morimoto's engineer, Yoshi Ishida, the Morimoto XB 2.0 HID Ballasts are just as good looking on the outside as they are well-engineered on the inside. They are available in both 35w and 50w versions, use proprietary software by the pros at Hylux paired with packaging perfection from the masters at Morimoto. This is today's most modern iteration of a model that has sold more than half a million units since inception, and we don't think it can really get any better!
Optional D2S HID Bulbs: Homegrown by Morimoto to out-perform any alternatives on the market when installed in projector-based headlight--and it shows. We admit the latest generation XB HID bulbs are pretty impressive when compared to other bulbs, and even older Morimoto bulbs. At the heart of the XB bulbs is their perfectly-aligned 100% Philips quartz glass capsule that houses high quality halide salts from German-supplier Messer. In our annual lux comparison test, they produced nearly the same lumin Osity (intensity) as the industry benchmark Osram CBI bulbs at 5500K. No, you're not seeing things here, but yes you will be seeing everything at night.
Optional Wiring Harness: As one of the most important parts in any HID lighting upgrade, don't skimp out when it comes to your wiring. It doesn't matter how good your ballasts are or how good your bulbs are, if your harness is a piece of crap, when it gives out your headlights are gonzo. The Morimoto HD Relay harness is easily worth the premium price compared to cheaper alternatives. With triple-sealed twin relays, 14ga. stranded copper wiring, over-molded fittings, and plug-n-play functionality, it will ensure everything functions properly and permanently from the original in-cabin controls. It's easily the best headlight wire harness out there.
Optional Housing Sealant: Protection is priceless! When you're putting together a set of high-end headlights, the last thing you want is moisture in 'em the first time it rains outside. RetroRubber is the most effective way to make sure the original seal is fully restored. For the small price, why anybody wouldn't prevent their new headlights from fogging up is beyond us. It'll be the best twelve bucks you've ever spent.

AWESOME

First off the only reason i"m giving this four stars and not five is because the instructions could really use few more steps to help people get very successful results. The bracket is very well designed and for the most part is a direct fit into the stock housing. very very minor trimming is needed for the screw under the FX-R projector to fit and the trimming doesn't have to be anything perfect. Use small washers to keep the bracket even in the factory housing when installing the projector. When your putting the bracket together on the fX-R projector the screws do over lap and make sure both sides of the project are the same. If your using factory lights use alot of heat and time to get them open. I did 260 for 15-20 each time, it took about 2 hrs a lot of cussing lot of frustration and i probably baked the lights for at least an hour all together. The first light i did i didn't use as mush heat and it showed i mangled the dang things. But when you finish and get it all put together it is worth every bit of you time. Light output is amazing to say the least. Diffidently worth doing.
Faaarrr better than OEM, but...

No doubt in anyone's mind these should've come standard on our trucks. These things are a cannon of drop-dead gorgeous light. However, those instructions (or lack thereof) are complete garbage. Basically all they tell you is what comes with the kit and a very rudimentary layout of how things kind of go together. They don't tell you where all those little spacers go, and which screw goes where...and why on earth are there only two of each size? The layout in the "instructions" looked nothing like my OEM setup so there was A LOT of improvisation. Honestly it looks like you got a glance at the OEM setup and threw something together real quick without checking fitment first. In the end I had to use zip-ties to keep the projectors from vibrating because the thing is only held by two screws on top of the unit. Now granted, I'm no moron; been an aircraft mechanic for over 8 years, but this kit had me scratching my head for hours. For this kind of money and a reputable company like TRS, there is really no excuse for a cobbled together kit like this one. Needs detailed pictures, multiple views of before/after install, and two more screws for the bottom so it doesn't vibrate. Looks great from the outside, but wtf guys.
MESSAGE FROM TRS: We did not have instructions available for the recently redesigned RetroQuik at this time, but they are now available and make the installation much more clear.
Should have come from the factory with these...
by Nick Trisdale
Though my '17 Ram 1500 already had projectors from the factory, light output was horrible. I tried high quality LED replacement bulbs before the retrofit, but there was not a noticeable difference. In comes this kit from TRS - very nice! I had always wanted to try the FX-Rs, and I'm glad that I did. The light output is amazing! Very clean cutoff. I opted for the Mopar harness, 35w ballasts and XB 5500k HID bulbs. Light output with the 35w ballasts is so good, I can't imagine what light output would be with 50w ballasts!
The resistors included in the Mopar harness can be a bit tricky to mount since they get so hot. Would recommend 9006 extensions to give you a bit more flexibility in mounting locations.
Assembly of the FX-Rs into the housing was fairly straight forward. In some reviews on other websites, people complained that they needed to go purchase additional washers in order for the supplied bracket to fit correctly. I didn't run into this issue and used the hardware provided without any issues. I did, however, use flat washers to mount to the back of the housing for a much easier assembly.
Go with the black headlight sealant, too - this is the color used from the factory.
By the way, these headlamps were extremely difficult to disassemble! Took the better part of the weekend (and several trips to the oven) to get this done, but I'm so glad I did. TRS did a great job recommending this kit to me and providing helpful assistance throughout the project.
